HOBOKEN — Hoboken celebrated the 102nd birthday of Frank Sinatra on Tuesday, Dec. 12To commemorate the special day, City Clerk James Farina, a big fan on the Hoboken-born crooner, hosted the annual City Hall birthday party for the singer.At the birthday celebration in the clerk’s office, Farina displayed his personal Sinatra memorabilia including magazine covers, Frank Sinatra books, and Sinatra’s key to the city from 1947.Mayor Dawn Zimmer cut the cake, made by Carlos Bakery. ×

A BRACE off the boot of Alister Lynch ensured Den Amstel maintained their lead in the points table of the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) STAG Beer Senior League, which continued on Sunday at the Den Amstel ground, West Coast Demerara.Lynch’s double assisted his side to secure a narrow 3-2 win against Eagles.The game started badly for Den Amstel as Eagles were first to go ahead through an Alonzo Henry sixth-minute conversion, but 13 minutes later, the home side found the equaliser as Lynch found the back of the opposition’s net for the first of his double.Thirteen minutes before the break, Kevon Ward sent Den Amstel into the lead, but one minute before lemon-time, Eagles were able to level the score as Henry tucked in another goal (44th minute).Locked 2-2, going into the second session, both teams were guilty of not finishing some good build-ups for the most part of the session and it was not until the 67th minute that Lynch netted his second goal to take his team to 19 points from seven matches.Den Amstel won six of their matches to date and drew the other. They have so far scored 18 goals and conceded eight.Eagles, on the other hand, are fourth in the standing with 10 points from six matches. They have won three, lost two and drawn one and have so far recorded 21 goals and conceded 11 for a plus 10 goal difference.Meanwhile, in the opening fixture on Sunday, Stewartville secured a walkover victory over Veggae Boys and are currently sixth in the points standing with 10 points from seven matches after winning three and losing a similar number while drawing one.Veggae Boys, on the other hand, are second from the bottom of the standing after playing eight matches. They won one and lost the other seven. They have conceded 36 goals while scoring only nine.
