first_img1 Huddersfield have announced the signing of midfielder Aaron Mooy from Manchester City for a club record fee.The news followed Friday morning’s announcement that manager David Wagner has signed a new two-year contract with the club.Mooy spent last season on loan with the Terriers and was a key figure in the club’s promotion to the Premier League. The 26-year-old was named the club’s Player of the Year, scoring four times and grabbing seven assists, and was also in the Championship Team of the Year. And the club have negotiated a permanent deal for the Australian, who has signed a three-year contract for an initial fee of £8million that could rise to £10m.It smashes their previous transfer record set 12 months ago when they paid 1860 Munich £1.8million for defender Christopher Schindler, and also makes Mooy the most expensive Australian in football history.Head Coach David Wagner commented:“Everybody who has watched our team in our promotion season knows how huge it is to have Aaron back at the Club as we enter the Premier League for the first time. I’m sure our fans will be very happy to see him back!“As I said many times last season, Aaron was right at the heart of our team. When he played well, we usually played well – and won!“His performances for us understandably brought a lot of interest in him this summer, so it is a big statement that Aaron wants to return to us. I think he understands that playing so regularly for us at a good level improved his game too and now he has the chance to be a regular in the Premier League; something that is very exciting for every player.“He is still a great age and has space to improve, which is exciting for us too!“His return, along with the early signing of Laurent Depoitre, demonstrates the commitment our Chairman, and the Club, have at becoming a success in this division.” Aaron Mooy was Huddersfield Town’s Player of the Year last season last_img read more
