Netball Jamaica (NJ) President Paula Daley-Morris says a new head coach for the Sunshine Girls will be in place by March 1. However, with two weeks to go before the deadline, the association is yet to receive a single application. Nevertheless Daley-Morris said the interviewing process will take about three to four weeks and so the national coach should be in place by the end of February. The Sunshine Girls have been without a head coach since November, after the resignation Minneth Reynolds, following the team’s 2-1 away series win over rivals England. The application deadline is February 17 and Daley-Morris said the most suitable candidate will be awarded the job, whether male or female. “The best candidate will get the job because we are going to keep it as objective as possible and therefore, the best person will get the job,” said Daley-Morris. However, she said that her association is yet to receive any applicants, one week after the post was advertised in the newspapers but is not concerned at this point with the lack of response. “When you put out an ad (advertisement), people normally wait until close to the deadline to apply,” said Daley-Morris. “The advertisement was made locally and if we don’t get any applicants, then we will advertise regionally, and then we will advertise internationally, so that every country goes through the same process,” Daley-Morris said. Top male coaches Winston Nevers and Sylvester Campbell have both said they would not applying for the job, while Janet Guy, coach of this year’s Elite League champions St Ann Orchids has also said she has no interest in the post. Daley-Morris also said that her administration has received a number of invitations for overseas tournaments this year but they are waiting to see what their funding will be like before they can confirm their participation in these events. “We have a number of invitations, including the senior Caribbean Championships and the Caribbean Under-16 tournament, but we have not signed off on them because we are waiting to see what the funding is like from SDF (Social Development Foundation),” said Daley-Morris.
